Getting Back to the Things You Love (Phase 3-Resume)

Welcome back to this week’s blog post!

This week’s discussion is about Phase 3 of your chiropractic journey, the Resume Phase. During this phase, you are resuming or returning to the activities that you want to do most. If we think of your adjustment as “tuning” your body’s movement patterns, this phase is like the test drive and slowly restarting activities that are important to you.

This phase differs from individual to individual as far as frequency of adjustments, some people we recommend twice per month, many find chiropractic adjustments once per week is best for them. This may also change month to month based on what is going on in your life whether that be stress or activity. That is why at Peace of Health Chiropractic Wellness Clinic we do not do automatic monthly renewals on our plans, we have found that life does not follow a smooth pattern, though sometimes we wish it did!

Sometimes that return to activity is a little slower than we would want, but it’s important to take it slowly and increase activity no more than 10% per week. Add a little more each week and see how your body feels, give it time to reset to your renewed activity levels before increasing it further. During this phase, there might be some “setbacks” as your body tries to reacclimate to your renewed activity. This is, simply, your body saying, “Too much, too fast” and that we need to reduce the activity slightly before progressing more. Remember, this is a journey to reclaiming your health goals. If you do feel these setbacks, it’s just your body letting you know it’s not yet ready for that much more. It’s okay to ease up before progressing again. Think about how much time was lost in your injury. Comparing maybe a week or two of slight reduction in your activity to a complete cessation of your activity while you were injured. Healing is not linear.
